At Thurcroft Junior Academy, our ethos is to promote a positive and confident environment when engaging with modern technology. We see this as vital for our children to be successful when accessing computing in this forever changing and exciting technical world.
Computing TJA Long Term Plan
We focus on reasons why children can succeed, rather than excuses around why they will fail. We understand the importance of gaining this modern skill and we share an enthusiastic approach when exposing our learners to a variety of technologies.
We promote the belief that all children are technicians and that this potential needs unlocking through vigorous high-quality teaching and appropriate challenge. The computing curriculum is vast and focuses on specific skills, which are appropriately scaffolded (as required) each session and are progressive within a unit, enabling for a true understanding of the end goal and how to reach the final objectives. We also offer an extra-curricular opportunity - an ‘online learning club’ – for children to further explore their love of computing and their skills.
We recognise the importance of developing children's awareness and ability to be safe whilst using technology. This is taught throughout not only computing lessons, but also during celebrated events such as ‘Safer internet day’ and ‘Anti Bullying Week’. When developing children’s awareness around online safety, we are responsiveness and ensure that current trends are addressed so that sessions are purposeful and meaningful for our children.There is a great deal of information and support for parents on the internet. These resources will provide information and guidance to help support children and young people of all age groups with a vast amount of information around internet apps, gaming, reporting and all risks that may occur online.
