Joy of Movement

Y5 are so excited to welcome Rotherham United every Friday of this half-term. Rotherham United are completing a 'Joy of Movement' unit with the children, which consists of a 45 minutes physical activity session, followed by a 45-minutes classroom-based theory session. Y5 loved session number one and can't wait for this week.

Ukulele

Y5 have been receiving Ukulele lessons to enhance their Music lessons. They have worked on rhythms, learnt some new notations and re-capped the chords learnt last year. Y5 have thoroughly enjoyed having Mr. Drown back in class.

Dodgeball

Pupils in Y5 had a fantastic afternoon at the ACET dodgeball competition! They worked amazingly as a team and played each game with sportsmanship and super effort! Special mention to the red team who managed to secure 1st place on their court! Well done to ALL the children who took part - I am extremely proud of you all!

Mental Health

In corporation with their RSHE learning, Year 5 have been receiving some Mental Health workshops, provided by charity funding from ‘Children in Need’. The children have been learning all about their own emotions, how to recognise them and how to support themselves, as well as learning about how to recognise mental health in others and supporting them. They have also been learning about how important it is to look after your mental health as well as your physical health.

Science – Solar System

This half term, in Science, Year 5 are learning all about the solar system. To introduce the topic, Year 5 explored a Planetarium. They also, created their own solar systems, which are displayed in the classroom.

History Day

During our whole school History Day, Year 5 dressed up as different people from the Victorian Era as this was their topic for the half term. Throughout the day, the children were immersed in Victorian life, from Victorian school’s through to mining, which continued into learning about their local history and how mining related.

Peer Pressure

Pupils in Y5 had the pleasure to welcome the anti-bullying company into school to deliver a workshop around peer pressure. Pupils were amazing asking lots of interesting questions and developed their knowledge around peer pressure.

Please keep checking back on the Year 5 page as we will be sharing lots of photographs showcasing our amazing learning.
